Evaluating your Vitamins

On more than one occasion, I have seen vitamin supplements show up on x-rays of patients in my office that their body was unable to dissolve. The tablets are so hard and compacted (due to binders placed in the tablet) that the GI tract has difficulty dissolving them.

A quick test to see if your supplements are being properly absorbed is to add one teaspoon of vinegar in an 8 oz. glass of water and place the tablet into the glass. The tablet should dissolve in less than a minute. If not, it's time to throw out your supplements and find something better - preferably encapsulated!
